Our Members Lhoist and Orbix Selected by the EU Innovation Fund for Their Innovative CO2ncrEAT Project
Last month, our Belgian members Lhoist and Orbix, announced that they have been selected by the EU Innovation Fund for their innovative CO2ncrEAT joint project to capture, transport, and reuse CO2 in Hermalle (BE).
The project, developed in cooperation with Prefer and Fluxys Belgium will capture about 12,000 tons of CO2 per year that will then be transported and mineralised into building blocks instead of being emitted into the atmosphere. In addition, CO2 will be mixed with other recycled co-products from the steel industry allowing an extra avoidance of 8,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
CO2ncrEAT has been developed thanks to the synergies between our members Orbix, which is offering an ad-hoc technology to recover solid residues from the steel industry, and Lhoist, the world leader in lime production and supplier of CO2. In addition, Fluxys Belgium will provide its expertise in pipeline transport and Prefer will produce the building materials.
The Innovation Fund is one of the world’s largest funding programmes for the demonstration of innovative low-carbon technologies. More on the Innovation Fund here.
