Everybody counts: why national climate targets must not be scrapped

The EU shows every sign of wanting to scrap the law which sets national climate targets. Yet national targets are vital for driving down emissions.

Luckily, now citizens have a chance to make their voices heard. The European Commission has opened up a public consultation on the national climate target law which runs until 5 February.

A group of NGOs, including WWF, Transport and Environment, CAN Europe, EEB, Birdlife Europe, Carbon Market Watch have started a petition to send a strong message to the European Commission that binding national climate targets are needed and must be strengthened to achieve Europe’s 2030 climate goal.
