European turbine sector elects new board leadership

Meeting yesterday in Brussels, the Board of EUTurbines, the European Association of Gas and Steam Turbine Manufacturers, elected its new leadership team. Effective 6 November 2024, Dr. Javier Cavada is the new President of EUTurbines, leading the association’s strategic efforts to support Europe’s transition to a sustainable, decarbonised energy system that is affordable and reliable, and in which turbine-based solutions play a central role. Dr. Javier Cavada is the President and CEO of Mitsubishi Power for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), a company with a strong European footprint. He will be supported in his role by elected EUTurbines Vice-Presidents: Andrew Passmore, Product Management Leader at GE Vernova; Luigi Coltelletti, Senior Vice President Strategy at Italian turbine manufacturer Ansaldo Energia; and Thomas Thiemann, Senior Vice President Energy Transition Technologies at Siemens Energy. Commenting on his election, Dr. Cavada said: "The power generation turbine industry will play a crucial role in making Europe’s renewables-based energy system reliable and stable. While the mainstay power source of the future will be renewables, advanced turbines will play a vital role to provide a stable and flexible energy source to our grids. As President, I will work closely with our partners and policy makers across Europe, to scale up the innovation and use of clean fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia in turbines to meet our shared climate targets!"
