EU agrees updated climate plan as per 2015 Paris accord

This is an important political signal. But the new EU target is not enough.

Today the EU agreed its updated climate plan - or 'Nationally Determined Contribution' (NDC) - to be submitted to the UN as per the 2015 Paris climate agreement.

Imke Lübbeke, head of climate and energy at WWF European Policy Office commented:

“Today's updated EU climate plan is an important political signal. Other countries must quickly follow suit and submit strengthened climate plans to the UN if they have not yet done so. However, the EU's updated net 55% reduction target does not go far enough. To be in line with the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C temperature limit, the EU must cut emissions by 65% by 2030."
