ANA inks MoU with Raven, Itochu for waste-to-H2 SAF

All Nippon Airways (ANA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Itochu Corporation and Raven SR for a long-term order of waste-to-hydrogen sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

The undisclosed order of SAF aims to replace 10% of ANA’s aviation fuel by 2030 and the company expects its aircraft to be carbon neutral by 2050.

Hideo Miyake, ANA Executive, said, “This announcement with Itochu and Raven SR will be great importance and support our mid and long-term carbon reduction goal. As part of our climate transition strategies, ANA is dedicated to being an industry leader with our environment commitments.”

Raven SR, which will begin hydrogen production in Q1 2024, plans to start producing SAF in California, and produce 200,000 tonnes of SAF annually by 2034.

The company revealed it will commercialise operations of a waste-to-hydrogen plant in Richmond, California, in collaboration with Chevron New Energies and Hyzon Motors.
